Mitral Valve Disease: Managing Clinical Signs and Extending Life - presented by Lance Visser DVM, MS, DACVIM (Cardiology)

Program Description: This session provides an overview of recent clinical trials evaluating pharmacologic treatment of heart disease in dogs with clinical signs, emphasizing strategies for the primary care veterinarian. The clinical recognition, stabilization, and long-term management of congestive heart failure in dogs will be explored using case vignettes and a question-and-answer approach between speakers—from signs of cough to the first hospitalization to the patient with advanced, refractory disease.

Presented by Dr. Lance Visser DVM, MS, DACVIM (Cardiology). Dr. Lance Visser is from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He obtained a combined DVM/MS in 2010 from Michigan State University. He then completed a small animal rotating internship at North Carolina State University in 2011, followed by a combined residency/MS program in cardiology at The Ohio State University in 2014. Dr. Visser is currently an associate professor of cardiology in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University. Before this, he was on the faculty at the University of California, Davis, for 7 years. Dr. Visser is an award-winning educator and has a passion for helping veterinarians with the clinical management of patients with heart disease.
